Worry-free Dentistry

AmyUncategorized

It’s natural to fear the unknown, but for some people that principle applies doubly when it comes to dental treatment. People with extreme dental anxiety, or those who’ve had unpleasant dental experiences in the past, can find themselves downright frightened to take a seat in the dental chair. Unfortunately when it comes to dental care, proper preventive care is crucial to maintaining a beautiful, healthy smile. So putting off checkup, cleanings or more extensive treatment could wreak havoc on your smile. Thanks to sedation dentistry, though, there’s no longer any reason to put off important preventive or restorative dental treatment. Sedation dentistry allows patients to receive the dental care they need, without all that unnecessary worry.

What Sedation Options Do You Offer?

At Keelan Dental we offer our patients two forms of sedation: oral or intravenous (IV). Oral Sedation is a pill that’s taken shortly before the procedure, or in some cases, the night before the procedure. This helps to relax a patient, but allows him or her to stay conscious and responsive during treatment. Like oral sedation, IV sedation is administered shortly before a procedure, and allows patients to remain conscious throughout the procedure. However, afterwards, he or she may not have complete memories of the procedure.

Either option will require a patient to arrange transportation home from our office, and supervision for the rest of the day is advised.

Am I A Good Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

Your individual needs, general health and the scope of the procedure being performed all help us determine first, if sedation is necessary, and if so, which form of sedation is best for you. Besides addressing dental anxiety, sedation dentistry can also aid those with special needs that might make it difficult or impossible to sit still for the duration of a procedure.
